1504 Lamy Lane · Monroe, Louisiana · Since 1946

Come in and play something.

Monroe's largest selection of new and used pianos, organs and portable keyboards. Everything on the floor is there to be played, and nobody is going to rush you.

Eighty years on one floor

A piano house, not a website with a shopping cart.

Paul Hewitt Music has been helping musicians around Monroe with their piano needs, parts and new equipment since 1946. The floor is a real room at 1504 Lamy Lane with real instruments on it, and the instruments change as they sell. What you see on this page was photographed where it stands.

If you are getting a child started, coming back to an instrument after twenty years, or looking for a Hammond that still has its tone cabinet, the answer is the same. Come in between ten and five, sit down, and play a few of them.

This is the whole shop, in the order you would meet it walking in from the parking lot.

01

The piano floor

New Yamaha stands on the same carpet as pre-owned uprights, consoles and baby grands. It is the largest selection of new and used pianos, organs and portable keyboards in Monroe, and the only way to know which one is yours is to sit down at a few of them.

02

The Hammond corner

Under the original Hammond dealer sign that still reads Music's Most Glorious Voice. Consoles and tone cabinets, the CV, the RT-3, the A100 in cherry. A Hammond is a two piece instrument and we keep both pieces.

03

The digital side

Clavinova and portable keyboards for the player who needs headphones after nine, or a room that will not take the weight of an upright. Weighted action, real sound, no tuning.

The bench

Parts and service since 1946. This is the inside of a Hammond with its service plate still riveted to the chassis. Shops that can open one of these up are not thick on the ground any more.

The end of a playing life

Some of them leave here as furniture.

A piano that will never hold a tuning again is still a hundred years of cabinet work. We have turned a grand case into a curved bookshelf and a Hammond tone cabinet into a bookcase, and an Everett studio now carries a modern Yamaha action inside its original body. They are one of a kind and they turn up on the floor from time to time.

Since 1946

Since 1946

The same family, the same floor, for nearly eighty years.

James Hewitt runs it now. The sign on the wall over the organs is the one Hammond gave its dealers, and it has not moved. Neither has the idea behind the shop, which is that somebody ought to be able to walk in off Lamy Lane, put their hands on an instrument, and get a straight answer about it from a person who plays.

Service here was great. We didn't buy a piano but the salesman was very helpful and explained lots of different products to us

Before you drive over

The questions we get on the phone.

At 1504 Lamy Lane in Monroe, Louisiana, 71201. The showroom is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed Sunday. You are welcome to come in and play anything on the floor.

Both. We carry Monroe's largest selection of new and used pianos, organs and portable keyboards. New Yamaha instruments sit on the same floor as pre-owned uprights, consoles, baby grands and vintage Hammond organs.

Yamaha and Clavinova on the new side, and a rotating pre-owned floor that has included Hammond, Wurlitzer, Young Chang and Everett. What is in stock changes as instruments sell, so call 318-372-1449 and ask what is on the floor this week.

Yes. Everything on the floor is there to be played. Come in during showroom hours, sit down, and take as long as you need. Nobody will rush you.

We offer professional vocal and instrumental lessons for first-time players and for advanced musicians who want to take the next step. Call 318-372-1449 for current teachers, availability and scheduling.

Hammonds are a genuine specialty here. We keep Hammond consoles and tone cabinets on the floor, and we handle the parts and service side of keeping older instruments playing.

When an instrument reaches the end of its playing life, we rebuild the cabinet into furniture rather than scrap it. We have turned a grand piano case into a curved bookshelf and a Hammond tone cabinet into a bookcase. They are one of a kind and they appear on the floor from time to time.
